In general, human beings are born with an innate need to communicate in and to the world. Children often express a need to communicate with expressive gestures and language that is initially abstract to an intended audience. Albeit the origin might be abstract and expressive, representational depictions typically follow (e.g., drawings of home, trees, portraits). Since the dawn of my need to express through multiple mediums (e.g., pencil, oils, film sets, celluloid, music), much of my work, specifically in paintings and file, have continually centered on the relationship between children and their experiences in their world.

My interest in painting has been an ongoing process since the time I sketched illustrations for mock comic books during early adolescence into high school. As I began experimenting in pencil and ink, I was continually drawn to a childlike quality burgeoning on breaking through the innocence of experience. In essence, I think all artwork as it explores itself through an artist’s mind and their creation permeates the innocence of what is being newly created, and as the work evolves a new understanding of looking at the world is revealed. My current paintings at this stage represents a minimalist exploration with color. The viewer will notice how many of the artworks emphasize an intentional desaturation of color. This approach is purposeful. It originates from my exploration in shooting black and white film and the desire to represent work in a playful, illustration style. Some of the recent work stems from 1960’s erotica, wherein I alter the perspective of the viewer and challenge the objectification inherent in the original photographs.
